Rauhankoulu Peace School is located at the Peace Station in Pasila, Helsinki. It is a workshop-based peace work project, which the Institute maintains together with the Peace Union of Finland. At the Peace School students participate in activity days which deal with peace education themes, such as conflict prevention, non-violence, human rights, environmental issues, disarmament and refugeeism. The work method is participatory drama which is intended to awaken the students’ own critical thinking and to increase their sympathy and dialogue skills as well as their respect for diversity. In 2006 the Peace School was visited by about 40 classes, i.e. about 800 students from the capital region. The workshops are held in Finnish and Swedish.
